In fact, the last time both Hooper and Lee were named in the starting eleven was way back on 9th December 2017 in a 3-1 loss away to Norwich City and have both since had a combined absence of 801 days, 111 competitive fixtures and 9,990 match-day minutes.
With both players out of contract in the summer, they have very little time to return to full-match-fitness and appear in either a league or cup tie, although Hooper is the more likely.
Here’s a breakdown of their Wednesday careers and omission due to injury.
Last outing: 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest on December 26th 2017
Days absent: 392
Competitive fixtures absent: 54
Competitive minutes absent: 4,860
Last outing: 3-1 loss at Norwich City on December 9th 2017
Days absent: 409
Competitive fixtures absent: 57
Competitive minutes absent: 5,130
Although it looks likely that both players will not be offered a contract renewal, it would be great to see either player appear in the starting eleven for just one last time, at least.
Accepting the fateful departure of both of these two players will be difficult knowing their natural talent when at full-fitness. Hooper and Lee are still fans’ favourites and will be remembered particularly for the 2015/16 campaign that led us to the playoff final.
It will be a sad day when the inevitable happens.
