The most notable reports suggest that our beloved goalkeeper Keiran Westwood is being targeted by numerous teams. Despite the Wednesday shot-stopper being side-lined for the majority of the season, he is without question an invaluable member of the squad.
However, when fully-fit, Westwood is a cut above the rest. I personally think he’s the best goalkeeper in the Championship having outperformed so many others in this league for almost four-years consistently with Wednesday.
The Owls number 1 has an outstanding record that has since made him a fans-favourite at Hillsborough. The Irish international kept 17 cleans-sheets in his debut season that equalled the clubs all-time-record. This record helped Westwood contribute to a total of 52 clean-sheets in 144 appearances to date for Wednesday and he has also been named player of the season on two occasions.
Additionally, the 33-year-old was named in the 2014-15 PFA team of the year awards, the first Sheffield Wednesday player to do so since Hirst, Sheridan and Pearson back in the glorious 1990/91 campaign.
The famous Bobby Moore saying goes “If you never concede a goal, you’re going to win more games than you lose.” Since Westwood’s arrival in 2014, he has proven to be key in this proverb and with Keiran’s natural ability, I’m sure he will be vital in Sheffield Wednesday’s future successes.
I cannot reiterate how important he is to our first team. It seems Westwood can’t go a transfer window without other clubs lurking for his signature, well; the same message stands as it has done for four-years. Keep your hands off our Keiran!
