Sheffield Wednesday’s 2017/18 campaign has been nothing short of disappointing, in fact, a season to forget for many reasons. The conclusion of the Sky Bet Championship can’t come quick enough for us Wednesdayites.
Come June, Jos Luhukay will prepare his squad in pre-season for the new regular league term that will commence in August. By then, Sheffield Wednesday will be hopeful of having a fully fit bunch who have been missing for the most part of this campaign alongside possible new recruits. Some of these players will be at Jos’ disposal for the first time and are certain to be ready for the off.
Although a couple of players have made brief returns to the squad, it would be unwise to suggest they are at peak fitness levels having been sidelined for so long, something pre-season can overcome.

The recovery of Barry Bannan has already indicated the importance of key figures in the match-day squad with sound performances from the midfielder already this month.
What excites me the most in preparation for next season is the hopeful return of Sheffield Wednesday’s spine in the starting XI, something Owls fans will be able shout about in due course.
You would expect that Westwood, Hutchinson, Lee, Forestieri and Hooper are all possibly guaranteed starters when at full fitness next term. Although now, a few of these players will be looking over shoulder at consistently improved performers such as Wildsmith, Joao and Nuhiu.
It would be a God send to see such players back in the mix. Forestieri and Hooper alone have fifty-eight league goals between them for the Owls. Westwood, Hutchinson and Lee all have a wealth of experience are top quality Championship players.

All five players have played a vital role Wednesday’s succes in previous campaigns. Each player is a match winner, something Sheffield Wednesday have been missing for far too long now.
I’m sure Jos and the majority of his squad already have one eye on next season. Let’s put this campaign behind us and be hopeful that next term is one to remember.
